SorterPay Guide

On-Ramp, Off-Ramp and Cross-Ramp explained

On-ramp and off-ramp describe conversion between fiat and digital assets. SorterPay uses cross-ramp as practical terminology for broader infrastructure connecting different rails, currencies, markets or fiat/digital-asset flows from an entry rail to a different exit or settlement rail.

On-Ramp

An on-ramp converts fiat currency into crypto or digital assets such as stablecoins. Cards, bank transfers or local payment methods may be used as the entry rail, depending on the provider.

Off-Ramp

An off-ramp converts crypto or digital assets back into fiat currency and delivers value through an appropriate payout or banking rail. The exact flow depends on the provider, destination and compliance requirements.

Cross-Ramp

Cross-ramp is less standardized terminology. Here it describes infrastructure connecting different rails, currencies, markets or fiat/digital-asset flows from an entry rail to a different exit or settlement rail—for example, fiat in one market, a stablecoin as an intermediate rail, and fiat at the destination.
